How to build ringlock scaffold in SketchUp.

Place, connect, extend. Your first scaffold bay takes a few clicks, and the same steps build the rest of the structure.

Build your first bay.

The steps below follow Structure+ 1.2.0. The video may show an earlier version, so a panel can look slightly different.

  1. Open Extensions → Structure+ → Structure+ Palette and choose the Scaffold tab.
  2. Pick Ringlock Standard, choose Spigot or Sleeve and a height, and click in open space to place the first standard.
  3. Pick Ledger. Click a connection on the standard to start a run, then click along to place ledgers. The endpoint standard is created for you. Press Esc to end the run.
  4. Keep clicking connections to run ledgers round the bay. Standards are added at each end as you go.
  5. Pick Platform, click a ledger, then click to fill the bay with decking.

Keep building.

Read the status bar at the bottom of the SketchUp window: every tool says there what it wants next, and what is wrong if something is.

  • Brace: choose the rise, click a rosette, then one that many rings up or down.
  • Stair, Ladder, Guardrail and Toe Board attach to existing ledgers.
  • Duplicate Sideways and Duplicate Upwards copy a finished bay across or up a lift.
